In spite of the fact that it is well-known, the pest can still cause significant damage in certain years favourable for its development. This is why the author provides useful and new information on the biology of and damage by the pest.

A new draft regulation on plant protection in the EU – our growers could get into a difficult situation

As it has been reported by the Hungarian Chamber of Plant Protection Professionals and Plant Health Doctors in a material informing the professional public and growers, the European Union is drafting the new rules of pesticide registration, whose approval in the proposed form would have very adverse effects on Hungarian agriculture. The organisation has prepared a technical material and a position paper about this issue. Both of them were finalised and approved in a meeting at Budapest Corvinus University on 14 May 2008. The ticle summarises the most important statements of the technical material of the Chamber titled “The competitiveness of agriculture is our common concern”.
