It is true for Hungary but also for the global trend of crop production that the area of certain crop groups, oilseeds in particular, has increased and the produced volume of the most important oils has also changed. Rape has been the third most important oil crop in the world. How have the cropping area, yields and marketing of rapes developed in Hungary per county and in certain countries of the world? And what were the reasons? The paper gives the answer to these questions.

Tivadar Lánci, a retired crop production manager of the farmers’ cooperative “Naszályvölgye” at Nőtincs is still active and works as agricultural adviser specialised in rape growing. The slogan indicated in the title was the motto of the series of events of “Bayer meeting” organised already for the seventh time. This year it took place at three venues (Szarvas, Hajdúszoboszló and Lajoskomárom) between 27 May and 3 June. The staff of Bayer CropScience gave an account of the results of trials with the management programmes of cereals, maize, sunflowers and rapes on the expositions organised on a revolving stage.

Chinese silver grass as an alternative crop in France

Under the more and more uncertain economic conditions, three years ago seven growers decided to create an association to the southeast of Paris. Their aim was to grow, process and distribute Chinese silver grass in order to stimulate stagnant local economy and to increase employment. This year already 25 farmers are involved in the association and next year their number will increase to 32. The reason why this formerly unknown plant is becoming more and more popular in France will turn out from the article.
The current practice of processing tomato production

This article is to correct the former one titled “Processing tomato production” published in the February 2010 number of Agrofórum. The earlier crop production programme outlined in that paper has been updated with the contribution of the professionals of Csárda-Agro Cooperative, growing processing tomatoes on about 400 hectares at Mezőberény.
