Synergists or antagonists? (Do potassium and magnesium assist or prevent each other’s uptake?)
(Dr. István Terbe)
The introduction of integrated programmes into vegetable growing with key elements such as nutrient supply involved developmental disorders in crops as a consequence of increasing nutrient rates and using up-to-date techniques (e.g. applying nutrient solutions and retarded fertilizers). Such problems could be observed in the past very rarely, in particular in fertilizer application experiments. In spite of the fact that in our days the phenomena themselves are known and do not occur rarely, we are not really aware of the reasons of such disturbances of growth, the factors that can cause them. This article wishes to change this situation by examining the relationship of magnesium and potassium.

The situation of walnut growing in Hungary
(Teréz Radócz Kocsis)
The cropping area of walnuts has been increasing in Hungary since the early 2000s. In contrast to the other fruit species, walnut can be considered a success crop that can be attributed to the balanced operation of the sector in breeding, growing, packing and trade. The most profitable part is the sales of big-size units of walnut in the shell abroad, allowed, in addition to the excellent quality of the Hungarian varieties, to their early ripening time. The biggest Hungarian exporter believes the export trade of this product could be increased by about 1000-1500 tons.
