Disease resistance trials with maize hybrids included in the national list

It was already the fifth year in 2011 that the Agricultural Office carried out post-registration trials with maize hybrids included in the national list, financed and organised by the Grain Producers’ Association and the Hungarian Seed Association. Trial results published in the article can help growers to consider the disease risks likely to be involved in growing a particular hybrid at a given production site.

The occurrence of David’s spurge in Hungary

You can read about a weed plant, unknown up to now in Hungary, native in North America and Mexico, introduced to several places in Europe and spreading mainly along railway lines. The plant, called David’s spurge, flowers in late summer and autumn, was found by plant protection inspector in the outskirts of the village Igar in August 2011.

Dr. Sándor Fazekas, minister of agriculture lunched the final payment of SAPS (Single Area Payment Scheme) for year 2011 in an environment well suited to the topic but breaking with the traditions. By that the second part of Single Area Payment Scheme belonging to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Agriculture began to be transferred to growers. The event took place at the cattle husbandry premises for 950 animals of Bicskei MG Zrt. at Ödön Farmstead, Etyek on 19 January 2012 with the participation of the representatives of the technical journals.

The most important part of the museum of agricultural machines in Mezőkövesd consists of locomobiles and tractors. These old machines weighing 2-3 tons, manufactured at the beginning of the 20th century, powered by petrol, operated with one cylinder, working in four strokes and possessing big flywheels were the first power machines of smallholders in agricultural production. They had been in use until the time tractors became widespread. Dragged by horses or manpower, they were mostly used for driving threshing machines from the late 19th century to the end of the 1930s.
