Water management in agriculture – constraints and prospects

The future prospects of crop production will be likely expanded or restricted by the level of adaptation to climatic changes. The procedure of the Forum for the Agreement of Hungarian Farmers in the Carpathian Basin
It was mentioned in the introduction to the heading “Without frontiers” launched in the journal last month that in the future we would like to regularly report on the relation of Hungarian farmers’ organisations over the border and in Hungary, as well as of the events of public interest affecting Hungarian growers both within and beyond the borders. Accordingly, we reported on the consultation forum held on 3 May in Orosháza. Due to the constraints in space of our journal, we could not give an account of the document signed there. This article is to do that.

Irrigation of almond trees under regulated water deficiency

Almonds are considered by many as a drought-tolerant fruit species. However, it is important to know that the tree responses to water deficiency by several undesirable symptoms. Furthermore, by now the development of the sustainable irrigation strategy of almond trees has become a new field of research. One of the options for implementation could be irrigation under regulated water deficiency, by applying volumes of irrigation water below the total water demand of the plant. The author undertakes to summarise the results of the experiments having carried out and experienced abroad so far.
