The present article gives an overview of the profitability of domestic rape production based on the pilot farm data of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI). The cost analysis for the particular yield groups gives an excellent presentation of the relation of input costs (seed, fertilizer, pesticides), and the average yields.

Cereals – market outlook

The experts of the International Grains Council (IGC) have calculated a barley consumption exceeding the global output by 4 million tons for the marketing year of 2014/2015. The downward trend in prices is not expected to turn for the time being, as substantial reserves have built up since the abundant yields produced in the season 2013/2014, increasing the significant commodity stock of the marketing year of 2014/2015. At the end of the new season, the global reserves of barley (23 million tons) could be by 4 million tonnes less.

On 25 June, the colleagues gave a friendly farewell party at Budapest Corvinus University to Dr. Thomas Popp who, after more than fifteen years spent in Hungary, would retire in September. Dr. Thomas Popp used to be the Hungarian representative of the international institution engaged in nutrient research, the International Potash Institute (Switzerland), and of the company leading in potassium fertilizer manufacturing and distributing, K + S KALI GmbH (Germany, Kassel).
